MIDF was incorporated on 30 March 1960 mainly for the purpose of ensuring access to financing for manufacturing-based small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and as part of Malaysia’s post-independence strategy to accelerate development of the industrial sector.

The goal of MIDF is to promote the development of the industrial economy by financing the upgrading and improvement of manufacturing and services small businesses. MIDF offers development financing in the form of conventional and Syariah-compliant loans for small businesses in various fields of manufacturing and services. The funds are mainly to be used for creating new projects, expanding and improving existing operations, and modernising the automation processes used in industrial manufacturing.
